Athletics
At Rivendell Academy, middle school and high school students have the opportunity to participate in basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, soccer and softball. (Recent team successes here?) Students also have the opportunity to participate in football, ice hockey, lacrosse and track & field with other local and regional high schools' teams.
Competitive athletics are an integral part of the educational process at Rivendell Academy. A player's drive, determination, confidence, mental approach, and emotional control are developed and tested through sports, and how an athlete learns to cope with challenges is an educational value that can be carried into other areas of school and life. Coaches work closely with players and emphasize commitment, dedication, responsibility, and the importance of a solid work ethic. With good leadership from coaches, athletes learn self-discipline, self-motivation and good sportsmanship regardless of the outcome of an event. Athletes learn to plan, prepare, perform, evaluate, and try again. Our teams play to win, but winning is only one consequence of an important process and system of values.
Parents can have an impact in how their children respond to individual and team experiences and results. Parents who encourage their children to communicate with their coaches to seek clarification, understanding, and counsel are contributing to students' normal growth, development and maturity.
It is important to understand that success comes with failures too. By design, athletic participation is a blend of successes and failures, setbacks and triumphs. We have to invest time and energy in preparing and hoping for success. At Rivendell Academy, we encourage you to set high goals and commit yourself achieving them. Work long and hard, compete intensely, and treat opposing teams with respect. It is not winning or losing but rather how you win and lose that determines a teams' character and moral fiber.
We are now offering the convenience of online sports registration through FamilyID. FamilyID is a secure registration platform that provides you with an easy, user-friendly way to register for our programs, and helps us to be more administratively efficient and environmentally responsible. When you register through FamilyID, the system keeps track of your information in your FamilyID profile. You enter your information only once for each family member and that information is available within the system for multiple uses and multiple programs.
